A weeks-old seal pup has been rescued after being found washed up on Monifieth beach last night.
A local woman found the eight-week-old male seal and contacted the Dundee team from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, who went out and picked up the struggling “harbour” pup.
It was then placed in a special seal container and weighed before being taken to the SSPCA Wildlife Centre at Fishcross, near Alloa.
Julia Cable from the BDMLR said: “It’s a male about eight weeks old and it’s fairly under-nourished.
“That’s pretty much borne out because it’s got an infection and he’s got poor teeth so he’s not been eating.
“He probably would have died if he had not been rescued and he needs antibiotics.
“He’s got a chance now though. If he gets through the first few days that’s usually a good sign.”
Wildlife experts praised the woman for phoning her find and staying with the seal until they reached the scene.
