A woman whose dog attacked a lamb while walking by a Newtyle farm was “very upset” by the incident, a court has heard.
Heather Shirley Eggleston, of Woodside Crescent, Perth, appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court charged with being the owner of a crossbred dog that worried livestock at Kinpurney Farm on May 23 this year.
Eggleston, 43, appeared without solicitor and admitted the offence.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said the dog involved was a cross springer spaniel and Patterdale terrier.
She said of the offence: “The farmer and his son were working in the area, and just before lunchtime around 11.50am the farmer noticed that there was a lamb 100 metres away, that was behaving strangely.
“At first he thought it was a wildcat but as he approached he saw it was a dog with its jaws around the lamb’s neck.
“The farmer followed the dog and traced the owner, because the dog went right back to her, and invited her back to the farm to await the police.
“The accused was fully cooperative with the police and she was very upset.”
In Eggleston’s statement, she said: “I really want to apologise for the damage.”
Fining Eggleston, Sheriff Murray said: “I think justice can be done by compensating the farm by £150 for the damage suffered and the inconvenience caused.”
