An Arbroath man’s court trial has been postponed because he is quarantined in Nigeria.
Forfar Sheriff Court heard that offshore worker John William Sharp had been delayed in Africa because of the ebola outbreak.
The 49-year-old was due to face trial on September 15 for seven charges which allege two counts of assault, threatening a person with violence and threatening to break down a door.
He is also accused of threatening two police officers that he would get a gun and shoot them in their eyes and of struggling with police. All the charges relate to July 15.
Sheriff Gregor Murray agreed to postpone the trial until December 9.
Sharp’s defence agent Michael Boyd told the court: “My client contacted me by email on September 1 to tell me he was meant to be back last week but that he was now being held in Nigeria.
“His movement has been restricted due to the outbreak of ebola and he won’t be back until September 26.”
