A man has admitted brandishing a glass at a female neighbour after she challenged him over swearing at a child.
Raymond Johnston and his victim had been involved in name calling prior to the incident in Arbroath’s Millgate Loan on June 19, which led to the 28-year-old appearing before Sheriff Gregor Murray at Forfar on Monday.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said the accused and complainer lived near each other and on the day of the offence the child had gone home and told their mother that Johnston had been swearing at them.
“The witness decided to go out and ask him about this and the accused then ran over to her with a drinking glass in his hand and started shouting that he was going to smash it on her head,” said the fiscal.
She called 999 and when police arrived the accused was still holding the glass.
Johnston, of Millgate Loan, admitted behaving in a threatening manner, brandishing the tumbler at the woman and threatening her with violence. Sentencing was deferred for reports until October 16.
Sheriff Murray noted two of the accused’s last three previous convictions had resulted in custodial sentences, one for a serious assault and the other with an anti-social element.
