An offshore worker travelled back from a 10-week trip to America in time to cast his vote in the referendum.
David Herd dismissed reports that the oil in Scottish waters would run out soon.
The 29-year-old from Montrose said: “The claims there are only 40 years of oil left are nonsense.
“The oldest oilfield in the North Sea is called the Auk and that’s been going for 43 years. It’s only pumped 19% of its oil that’s just one well.
“BP recently spent £7.5bn on oil wells they wouldn’t do that if there was only a few years left.
“It won’t run out in my time, or my son’s time.
“I think today will be the greatest day in Scotland’s history and think it will be a big Yes majority. Most of the people I’ve spoken to are voting yes.
“I want a change and want more power for Scotland. They are claiming they are giving us more powers, well they could have done that in ’79. I’m feeling very confident.”
