Filmmakers fundraising for Arbroath zombie movie

An Arbroath film company is asking for the public’s help in raising funds for a zombie movie.

Ironstar Films, based in Courier Country and staffed by former Arbroath Academy and Arbroath High School pupils aim to raise £1,500 through their IndieGoGo campaign.

‘Blood Loss’ is set and filmed in Arbroath, and entered for consideration at film festivals. A third of their goal has already been donated.

The money will go towards cast, sound, make up, special effects and props as well as festival fees.

Talks are rumoured to have taken place between the filmmakers and a big name star for the lead role, as well as world-class makeup and special effects experts.

Arbroath Academy alumni Graeme Carr, Peter Birnie and Dean Pearson, as well as Arbroath High pupil Adam Jennings are the minds behind Ironstar Films and the script for ‘Blood Loss’.

The local film company also has the help of filmmaker and former Arbroath Academy girl Jennifer Cooper.

She said: “With a wicked script and genuine talent, the one thing the guys really needed was an awesome location.

“A chance encounter with John Carswell led to the guys getting just that.

“John and I have been friends for almost two decades and he is a genuinely lovely guy who loves films.

“Knowing that he had a wicked location that would be perfect to use for a film, he was keen to help the guys out.

“We hope that the people of Arbroath and the surrounding areas continue to support the work that we are doing, as we continue to make progress.

“Unlike other crowdfunding platforms where it’s either your full amount or nothing at all, the good thing about IndieGoGo is that it is Flexible Funding, which means that no matter what you raise, you still get it.”

A teaser trailer is already up on the IndieGoGo site, filmed in an abandoned mill owned by John Carswell, son of local businessman of the same name.

An encounter with Mr Carswell opened up the unique location for filming, and has been praised by donors as adding atmosphere to the film.
