Essential repairs will take place on the Cowie Bridge, near Stonehaven, next week.
Costing £200,000, the work will replace the protection to the river bank and bridge piers.
The river bank and the foundations of the piers that support the bridge on the embankment of the river are both protected by gabion baskets which have deteriorated.
Gabion baskets are being replaced with rock armour consisting of very large stones measuring more than 1.5m in diameter.
The work will require lane one of the A90 southbound carriageway to be closed in the location of the bridge from Monday, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, for four weeks to provide safe access for plant and materials for the protection works being undertaken below the bridge.
There will also be a speed limit of 30mph in place.
It is not expected that the lane closure will result in significant delays, and every effort will be made to minimise the duration of the restrictions.
