Marines’ WAGs get on board with fundraising calendar

By sea and by land, the WAGs (wives and girlfriends) of the Royal Marines have taken some saucy snaps for charity.
The calendar celebrates the 350th birthday of the historic corps next year, as well as raising money for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.
Louise McQuaid, Miss August, whose husband is based at RM Condor outside of Arbroath, spoke about the calendar.
She said: “It’s a bit of a laugh but also a bit stressful. None of us have ever done modelling before.”
For the first time, the calendar is being sold on the Royal Marine shop website.
Fans of the marines will be happy to hear there is a male calendar for Go Commando marine families’ charity.
Louise talked about the origins of the calendar, in 2011 when the Marines were deployed to Afghanistan.
She said: “It was set up through Facebook, as a sort of support network. We raise money individually but we have a collective target and we’ve already reached that.”
The calendar was shot in Lancashire and many of the models hadn’t met before the shoot.
Louise said: “We wanted to get away from the traditional lads’ mag pinup, you know, girls with their kit off, and be a bit more glamorous.”
