Man rescued after getting trapped on Angus river island

An elderly man was rescued by helicopter from an Angus river.
The man had been fishing on an island in the North Esk near Edzell but was trapped on his own when the water rose and cut off his retreat.Emergency services were scrambled to Gannochy Estate north of Edzell following a report the fisherman was stranded at 1pm.A search and rescue helicopter from Lossiemouth was needed to winch the man to safety as he was stranded on the other side of the river.The call came in just before 1pm and he was finally rescued at 3.15pm after being winched up by the helicopter.He was then handed over to ambulance crews who carried out precautionary checks.It is understood he is in good health.It follows four people being rescued from the River North Esk in two incidents as a result of rising waters on Monday evening.
