Laurencekirk Primary School to remain closed after fire
ByThe Courier Reporter
Laurencekirk Primary School will remain closed for rest of the week following a fire on Monday.
A detailed assessment has been carried out at the school following the blaze which resulted in the building closing.
Although the fire was contained in a small area it has become clear that there is smoke damage throughout the school.
An Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson said: “Extensive efforts have been made to identify suitable alternative accommodation but unfortunately this has not been possible and therefore the school will have to close for the rest of the week.
“All efforts will be undertaken to ensure the school is able to open as normal after the holiday period.
“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this will cause for parents but the health and safety of pupils has to be our top priority.
“Aberdeenshire Council would also like to thank staff from all services as well as the Fire Service for all their hard work over the last few days in dealing with the incident.”
