The countdown is on to Brechin’s big weekend of fast action on a town centre track.
Cartie racers are busy putting the finishing touches to around 30 machines which will hurtle down a near kilometre-long street course, with the top racers hitting speeds of almost 40 miles an hour.
Saturday’s Halloween in the City event is the third cartie race extravaganza organised by community group Bravo Brechin and it is gearing up for what it hopes will be another huge influx to the town.
Earlier this year, Bravo Brechin was swamped with daredevils keen to take on the challenge of the city’s first street water slide, which was part of the annual Harley Davidson in the City motorcycle gathering.
Cartie event sub-committee chairman Gavin Brymer said he was confident the experience of the past two years would stand the group in good stead for this weekend.
“Every year we learn a lot about how to improve on things and we’re ready to go and can’t wait for the weekend,” he said.
“It’s all about putting the spirit back into Brechin and giving the community and visitors something they can really enjoy.
“Last year the weather couldn’t have been any worse but we still managed to get 2,500 people out on to the street to watch the carties.
“The weather is the one thing we don’t have a say over, but whatever the conditions we are sure the public will come out and see it it’s a great event.”
Bravo Brechin already has a good team of volunteers in place to help steward the event but are hoping for more helpers to come forward before the weekend.
The group is holding a pre-race meeting on Thursday at 7pm in the old City Club and volunteers can also contact Mr Brymer on 01356 624645.
Track set-up will begin from the top of the High Street at 6pm on Friday.
