A teenager has been told to save up his pocket money to repay vandalism at a golf course.
Aaron James Steele was only 15 years old when he vandalised a toilet block at Kirriemuir Golf Club this year, before throwing a flag pole into a fire.
The Kirriemuir teenager, now 16, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of vandalism in Sheilhill Road on January 14 or 15.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said the sum of damage was estimated at around £200.
“At 3pm on the 14th, a witness (the greenkeeper) checked the course, and the toilets which were all in order,” she told the court.
“At some point the accused and three witnesses went to Kirriemuir Golf Club and started to walk across the course.”
Steele picked up one of the flags from a hole and started waving it around as the group walked towards the toilet block.
Ms Drummond added: “The accused swung the flag pole against the drainage downpipe at the toilets, then placed the pole upon a fire.”
At 9am the next day, the greenkeeper found the damage to the toilets and an area of grass.
Defending Steele, solicitor Nick Markowksi said “He was there with a group of his pals, none of them have covered themselves in glory, and this was born out of immaturity.”
Steele, of Knowehead, admitted wilfully or recklessly destroying the property of another by smashing a plastic downpipe.
The charge originally alleged wilful fire-raising but an amended version was accepted by the Crown.
Sentence was deferred to April 23 next year for Steele to be of good behaviour, and he was told to save around £280 for compensation.
Sheriff Gregor Murray said: “My temptation was to give you a community payback order, to show that the damage you did must be paid for in some way.
“But I will defer sentence for six months to earn some money to pay compensation to the golf club for what you did.”
