Royal Bank of Scotland plans to shut its Kirriemuir branch early next year.
The bank said it took the “difficult decision” after transactions at the branch dropped by 24%. The Bank Street branch will close on February 24.
The move has angered Angus MP Mike Weir, who said it was another blow to services in the area.
Kirrie’s main post office on Reform Street recently closed for two weeks and a new location for it is now being sought.
The future of nearby Westmuir Post Office is also in doubt after an announcement last week that its current location was being “withdrawn from use” in January.
Mr Weir said: “This is another blow to the town coming on the heels of the announcement of the planned closure of the Westmuir post office and the recent fiasco over the Kirriemuir main post office.
“This is yet another example of the retreat of the banks from more rural areas.
“They maintain that customers can use online services but many in the rural areas around Kirriemuir will find it difficult to do so.”
RBS said it had seen a 30% drop in branch transactions across its branch network since 2010, while online and mobile transactions have grown by more than 200%.
“We expect these trends to continue as more and more of our customers bank with us through our mobile app, by online and telephone and through our upgraded ATM network,” said the bank statement.
“When we close a branch, we take a number of factors into account including usage and alternative ways to bank with us in the local area.
“We do understand that some of our customers do not use the internet or mobile phone app and prefer to be served over the counter.
“As a result we have come to an agreement with the local post office, which is close to the branch, so that customers can withdraw cash, check balances and make deposits free of charge. Businesses can also get coinage.”
Mr Weir said mention of the post office in the bank’s statement “added insult to injury”.
“Clearly they have so little awareness of the current situation in the town that they do not appreciate the concerns over Post Office services,” he added.
