An Angus pub landlady has called first orders on a cheeky charity calendar involving her friends.
Mum-of-two Jakki Smith, who runs the Millgate Bar in Arbroath, began fundraising for bowel condition charities after she was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2009.
The 32-year-old has encouraged 14 friends to join her in artfully-done shots around the town’s main attractions.
The calendar, which will go on sale next week, will raise funds for the Glitter Beach Foundation.
Jakki said her friends “didn’t need much convincing”.
“The men of the pub appeared in one last year,” she said. “A couple said they wanted to do one again this year but then someone came up with the idea of doing a ladies calendar.
“I didn’t think anyone would be up for it but I was surprised by the amount of interest.
“As a photographer myself I talked them through everything and it spiralled from there.”
Jakki takes pictures under the Phoenix Pix moniker and was able to do most of the shoot herself, enlisting the aid of 15-year-old Jane Souter when she was in the frame.
“For me, I was very nervous because I have my stoma bag but all the ladies made me feel very relaxed and I was fine,” she added.
Local businesses sponsored pages, which will allow all funds from sales to go directly to the charity, of which Jakki is a trustee.
Glitter Beach helps sufferers of inflammatory bowel disease, bowel and urinary cancer, and people with stomas, and aims to build a respite home.
Jakki added: “A friend of mine started it a few years ago. She was very ill and she started it to help people with stomas and so on, to say ‘you’re normal even if you have a stoma’.
“She came up with this idea of opening up a few cottages as respite houses, which all the money is going towards, for people post-operation or with long-term illnesses, or to give their carers a break.”
Calendars will be available from the pub, Completelyou, Checkpoint Garage, Murray Taylor, and Stuarts Fresh Fish.
