Elderly man dies in late-night crash near Newbigging

An elderly man died in a crash in Angus on Sunday night.
The 79-year-old died in a one-vehicle accident on the Newbigging to Carlungie road some time between 10.30pm and 11.40pm.
His car a silver Volvo had been travelling westwards when it left the road, collided with a fence and came to a rest in a ditch.
A police spokesman said: “Emergency services attended and the elderly driver, from the Angus area, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“No one else was involved and the deceased’s details will not be released until next of kin have been fully informed and a formal identification has taken place.”
The road was closed for a time to allow crash investigators to carry out enquiries at the scene.
