A pub goer who forced fellow drinkers to run for cover after shattering a window with a pint glass bas been fined £500.
Derek Strang launched the glass through the window of the Old Mason’s Arms in Forfar’s East High Street a short time after arguing with other customers.
CCTV captured customers who were smoking outside the bar having to dive for cover from the shards of the 6ft by 5ft window but, fortunately, no-one was hurt.
At the town’s sheriff court on Thursday, Strang, 27, of Halkerton, Forfar, pleaded guilty to throwing the tumbler at the pub on March 30, causing the window to break and members of the public to take evasive action.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said the incident began at about 7.45pm, when Strang became involved in an argument with other patrons. Bar staff intervened and about 15 minutes later, the accused picked up the pint glass and threw is at the window.
The court heard there were about half a dozen people standing outside the pub and one man was seen on CCTV dodging the shattering window. The £475 cost of the window has already been repaid, the court was told.
Sheriff Kevin Veal said: “I accept you are a first offender and recognise the damage has been paid for but this is a significant offence which cannot go unmarked.”
