A stunning 1930s art deco building that at various times has been home to restaurants, shops and the army during wartime, is to stop trading this month.
The Carron restaurant in Stonehaven will close on August 30 when owners Robert and Jacki Cleaver take early retirement.
Robert, 52, who is also the chef, said the Laurencekirk couple have planned to retire for the past five years but a succession of offers for the property had fallen through.
He said: “We are going to be very sad to leave. We have not sold, but we are closing in four weeks.
“We have worked really hard and sacrificed a lot of family life in an effort to retire at 50.
“We have got some great staff and fantastic customers, but at the end of the day we need to now look after ourselves and it is a decision that I think is the right one for us.”
