Emergency services have been involved in two separate operations just a few miles apart to rescue fishermen trapped by rising waters on an Angus river.
The drama began around 3.30pm when emergency services received reports of a man trapped on an island in the River North Esk, near Marykirk.
Fire crews including a water rescue team from Dundee were sent to the scene.
The call-out also involved a rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer in Northumberland.
Shortly after, another report of three men trapped on an island near the Northwaterbridge, just north of Montrose, was received by emergency services.
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We just rescued one person from the River Esk.
“We did not use the helicopter we used a boat to get him off the island and he seems to be fine.”
It is understood the three men in the second incident were also safely rescue.
