Arbroath High School is reeling after its headteacher was suspended over claims she acted inappropriately while drunk on a school trip.
Gillian Rew, from Dundee, is under investigation amid allegations of improper behaviour while interacting with pupils during an S6 excursion to Lockerbie.
An Angus Council spokeswoman said: “A member of staff at Arbroath High School has been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation into an alleged incident.”
The senior classes had been involved on an outdoors activity trip to Lockerbie two weeks ago as a reward for their achievement through the year.
Allegations have been made by parents of pupils on the trip that Mrs Rew had been drunk and acted improperly with some of the children.
An education source said: “Things did start to appear about it onFacebook but they were taken off pretty quickly as the kids were sworn to secrecy over what went on.”
The Courier approached localcouncillors for Arbroath West and Letham, under whose authority the school falls.
Councillor David Fairweather said:“I have met Mrs Rew on two separateoccasions, both at events going on at Arbroath High School.
“I found her to benothing less thanprofessional.
“It’s unfortunate to hear about this but I’m sure the authorities will take the proper measures in their investigation.”
The school’sparent council was approached for comment but did not wish to do so.
Mrs Rew joined Arbroath High this year, having been depute rector at Morgan Academy in Dundee.
Former head Iain Orr named her as his successor in November last year.
