A decade of domination for Scotland in the tug o’ war world has been sealed thanks to a group of Courier Country competitors.
Laurencekirk farmer Rhys Anderson, along with Bill Meston from Stonehaven and Martin Findlay from Tannadice, helped Scotland set a new benchmark for success with their team-mates after pulling in a hoard of gold medals at the recent world championships.
Scotland came first in the 600kg, 640kg and 680kg categories at the competition, which was held in Castlebar, Ireland.
Mr Anderson, who also won a number of personal accolades at the competition, said he was delighted the group had achieved the high standards they had set before the competition.
“It’s amazing,” Mr Anderson said. “About a month ago the coach told us that if we don’t come home with three gold medals he would be disappointed. He has very high expectations.
“But to achieve it is something great because you can’t take anything for granted at that level.”
