The humble spud is to be celebrated in a weekend Angus event.
Peel Farm at Lintrathen is inviting visitors to look ‘doon the dreel’ on Saturday and Sunday for the attraction’s first Tattie Festival when around 40 varieties of Scottish seed potatoes supplied by company Skea Organics will be offered for sale.
Growing tips will be on offer and Peel Farm visitors will also be able to ‘taste the tattie’ in a range of chef-prepared treats.
Peel farm manager Kim Gall said they wanted to celebrate the tattie in the attraction’s first food event of the year.
“This year at Peel we want to highlight the area’s heritage through the agricultural calendar, and what better way to begin, at the start of the planting season, with the tattie?”
Peter Grewar, whose family have been farming in Perthshire for more than 100 years and is a Potato Council ambassador, said: “It is a superb idea for Peel Farm to put on a Tattie Festival.
“Whether home grown or shop bought, tatties provide much of the nation’s vitamins and minerals required for a healthy balanced diet.
“Children in the UK get more vitamins and minerals from potatoes than from the five super foods beetroot, bananas, nuts, broccoli and avocado combined.”
