An Angus man may be jailed next month for attacking a woman before she was later killed.
Kevin Robertson, 51, attacked Catherine Sandeman at a house in Goosecroft, Forfar, on February 5 last year.
Ms Sandeman was allegedly murdered by Lee Arne Hopsdal nine months later in the town’s Glenmoy Terrace.
Forfar Sheriff Court heard Robertson punched and throttled the 40-year-old, and the Goosecroft resident previously pleaded guilty to an indictment alleging assault to injury.
On Tuesday, defence agent Bob Bruce asked the court to obtain a psychiatric report, stating his client had already been in custody for 161 days after the offence.
Sheriff Kevin Veal deferred sentence until April 24 for the report.
He added: “I make it clear that I won’t make an undertaking to impose a non-custodial sentence. This offence is aggravated by a double bail aggravation and the effect it has had on the victim.”
Hopsdal, 32, was remanded to the State Hospital in Carstairs as he awaits trial next week.
Ms Sandeman was found dead at a flat last November.
