Police swarmed on Dundee and Angus College in Arbroath tonight after reports of a stabbing.
Officers were called to the scene just before 5pm and surrounded the Keptie Street campus before entering.
Police cars were positioned and an ambulance crew also attended but were stood down after police confirmed it was an assault with minor injuries.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We are not treating the incident as a serious assault and no medical treatment was delivered at the scene.”
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed the initial report of the rush hour incident was linked to a suspected stabbing but said the service was stood down by police following early investigations.
She said: “We were called to the college at 4.53pm after a 20-year-old male student at the college had reportedly been stabbed by another person.
“A crew attended but police cancelled our involvement after stating there was only minor injury.
“We provided no medical treatment or nor did we transport anyone from the incident.”
