Rail services in the north-east have been thrown into chaos by a tragic find on the line in Angus.
Services to and from Aberdeen were delayed or cancelled as emergency services dealt with the incident.
It is understood the body is that of a woman in her 60s.
A British Transport Police spokesman confirmed: “Shortly after 11.30am this morning the body of a woman was found on the railway line in the vicinity of Lunan Bay, Montrose.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish her identity and the circumstances surrounding her death.”
The identity of the woman has not been confirmed, but the scene is near where emergency services have been searching for missing woman Joyce Howie.
The line reopened shortly before 3pm but transport chiefs warned of knock-on effects.
