Over £500,000 spent on pothole repairs in Montrose and Brechin

More than £500,000 has been spent repairing potholes on roads in Montrose and Brechin over this financial year.
Angus Council forked out £555,000 filling potholes in the area as it faces a £1 million reduction in its roads budget next year, to around £11m.
Brechin and Edzell councillor Bob Myles said: “What Angus Council is trying to do is make more permanent solutions to the problems so we do not have to come back again.
“There are times when we will say one pothole can wait until another day and then we can come back and fill up two or three potholes in the same area at once.”
Montrose councillor David May previously raised concerns over prevention being better than cure.
He said: “If we were able to resurface roads we would not need to spend so much on potholes but there are cost issues.”
A panel was formed by the council to gather information, make site visits and carry out interviews to get an idea of the state of potholes in the region.
