Concerns have been expressed that an Angus beauty spot has turned into a destination for fly-tippers.
Inveresk community councillor Duncan Smedley criticised a “deliberate move” to destroy parts of the landscape near Stracathro.
Tyres, oil containers and a stove were dumped on the Dun to Stracathro road over the weekend. Mr Smedley is concerned people were travelling to the Brechin area to fly-tip.
He said: “Any tipping on a beauty spot is diabolical. I think it’s a deliberate move by people who drive several miles to dump at night.
“This jeopardises the tourist and visitor traffic in the area. It is also a danger to wildlife which relies on the land.”
He added there was no excuse for fly tipping and that the site was being used as a dumping ground because it was “easy”.
Mr Smedley said: “Montrose and Brechin both have excellent recycling facilities. The Stracathro Hill site is next to the A90 so it’s easy to tip in the area.”
Brechin constable PC Billy Rattray said fly-tipping can be a “frequent issue” in the area.
He added: “The police would appeal to residents to take a registration number of the vehicle involved, which goes a long way to dealing with the crime.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
