Brechin newsagent applies for planning permission 30 years after extension was built

A shop has applied for planning permission after building an extension more than 30 years ago.
St Ninians Newsagents in Brechin built an extension to the rear of its shop in 1982.
But former proprietor DK Lindsay was forced to apply for listed building consent after it emerged a box was not ticked on a planning application in 1982, some three years after Class C status was conferred on the building.
Current proprietor Gordon McCombie should find out the result of the delegated decision in the next two months.
In a letter to Mr Lindsay’s agent, A Craig Architectural Consultants, Angus Council officer James Wright said: “It would appear from our records that the building was listed in 1979 and listed building consent should have been applied for at that time.
“However, in this instance these works have been undertaken in excess of 30 years ago and in my opinion given this timeframe it is highly unlikely this division would ever take formal enforcement action on this.”
