An Angus man has been jailed for assaulting his mother and grandmother after a drunken argument.
Jamie Cormie, 21, Thornton Park, Forfar, appeared at the town’s sheriff court on Thursday.
Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said the family had been drinking on the afternoon of February 24 when the accused was told to shut up by his mother in the living room.
He threw a lighter at her right eye, which left a bruise.
“When she lifted her head, he pulled her hair and the grandmother told him to stop it,” she said. “The accused stood up, leaned over and slapped her in the face.”
Cormie then kicked his mother twice in the stomach as she was prone.
Defence agent Bob Bruce said the offence contained an element of “dj vu” as an incident had happened along similar lines in the past.
He added: “As soon as alcohol is taken, Mr Cormie and his mother in the same room is not a happy dynamic.”
Sheriff Kevin Veal said the accused had been on four deferred sentences, four bail orders and had been in court 17 times for varying offences.
“I’m afraid when you’ve committed an offence within days of being bailed…you’ve placed yourself in great difficulty,” he added.
Cormie previously admitted assaulting his mother and grandmother in Threewells Drive, Forfar.
He was sent to prison for eight months.
