Brechin has been awarded £13 million for a long-awaited flood prevention scheme.
The massive Scottish Government windfall will mark one of the biggest civil engineering projects Angus has ever seen.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Paul Wheelhouse announced the news after an agreement with COSLA to cover 80% of the total cost of the scheme and a separate one in Selkirk.
More than £38.5m will be ploughed into the projects which already have planning permission through the General Capital Grant, and work is expected to get under way later this year.
The remaining £3m required for the Brechin flooding measures will be met by Angus Council.
Work will include construction of defences, flood embankments and flood walls as well as drainage system upgrades and three submerged pump stations.
The scheme will provide protection for approximately 150 properties in the area.
Applications for funding from Dundee and Perth and Kinross councils were unsuccessful.
