An Angus woman was targeted by a fraudster at the weekend who tried to scam her out of money for “roof work”.
The 92-year-old from Kirriemuir received a cold call from a man in his thirties who tried to obtain a large sum of money as a deposit for work to her roof that had not been carried out.
No cash changed hands but police have issued a warning to residents on the back of the incident.
A police spokesman said: “An elderly female, 92, from the Kirriemuir area had a cold call on Saturday from an unknown male in his thirties. The male was described as being 5ft 8in, of skinny build with short brown hair, a brown moustache, dark eyes and wearing dark clothing.
“The male claimed to be there to quote her work for her roof.
“The male entered the address and began quoting the elderly female large sums of money and tried to obtain a large deposit from her to complete work. However, no money exchanged hands.
“Residents are to be made aware of this and remain vigilant when cold callers attend their homes and if anyone knows or have seen this man they should contact Police Scotland on 101.”
