Children’s TV legend Timmy Mallett is to monitor the impact of coastal erosion this week as he returns to Tayside.
The presenter-turned-artist has painted many Tayside coastal scenes on canvas.
The region’s coastline has suffered from erosion in recent years and Timmy plans to look at the changes as he passes through on a cycle ride from Inverness to Dundee before an exhibition of his work opens in Broughty Ferry on Saturday.
He told The Courier: “I’m afraid nothing stays forever.
“Although it’s sad to see things change, it’s also an opportunity. I’m embarking on a 200-mile bike trip from Inverness to Dundee before the exhibition.
“I plan to look at that and see how things have changed.”
Timmy’s exhibition at Eduardo Alessandro Studios will include oil paintings of the Bell Rock Lighthouse in Arbroath, a Broughty Ferry sunset, a view over the River Tay from Tayport and the forest at Tentsmuir.
During his ride he plans to take many more snaps of Tayside with a view to getting the images on canvas for a future exhibition.
He said: “People talk about the special light of Angus and Tayside and they are right. Why is it different? I can’t put my finger on it but it’s a part of the world that I love.”
The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday but there is the opportunity for people to meet Timmy at a special preview on Friday from 7-9pm if they contact the gallery.
