The family of a late Angus peer will today be honoured for his services to the Polish community in Scotland.
The Rt Hon Lord Fraser of Carmyllie, Peter Fraser, died in June last year after a life of public service.
At noon his family will attend a ceremony at the Polish Embassy in London, at the behest of ambassador Witold Sobkw, to receive the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
One of Lord Fraser’s passions was preserving the memory of General Stanisaw Maczek of the Polish 1st Armoured Division, which fought in Normandy, Belgium, Holland and northern Germany.
The ceremony will be attended by Lady Fiona Fraser, their son Jamie, and daughters Jane and Catriona.
Lady Fraser said: “It’s a huge honour our only regret is that Peter is not receiving it himself.
“I think he would be very proud of this honour but he probably wouldn’t have regarded his efforts as particularly outstanding.”
