Police in Brazil are continuing their investigations into a shooting that left an Angus man dead.
Father of three, Peter Campsie, 48, from Montrose, was killed in a failed carjacking in Rio de Janeiro.
The operations manager for Diamond Offshore Drilling International was shot twice while trying to escape two gunmen, who were trying to steal his car in the Niteroi area of the city.
Mr Campsie, who moved to Brazil 16 years ago, had been travelling home to Macae, three hours north of Rio de Janeiro, when the attack happened on Wednesday afternoon.
A spokesman police in Rio confirmed a probe was under way into Mr Campsie’s death.
Meanwhile, First Minister Alex Salmond paid tribute to Mr Campsie as his family arrived in Brazil to be with his wife Janaina and daughter Joy, 10.
He said: “This is an extremely distressing incident and my thoughts and condolences are with the family during this very difficult time.”
A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We were made aware of the death of a British national in Brazil on April 2.
“We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”
Mr Campsie is survived in Scotland by sons Bob, 21, Steven, 16, mother Robbie, brother Ione and sister Alison.
