Triathlon organiser says Angus is the perfect location for new event
ByThe Courier Reporter
Up to 180 people of all abilities will compete in a new triatlon in Montrose this June.
The event has been organised by Arbroath woman Maggie Lawrie, who said the Angus scenery made it a perfect location for the multidisciplinary race.
The sporting challenge on June 1 will start with a 750 metre (30 length) swim at Montrose Leisure Centre, then a 20km bike ride taking in the Angus coastal path before finishing with a 5km sprint.
There is a less strenuous option for triathlon beginners, who can complete the challenge with a 400m (16 lengths) swim and cycling for 12km before the 5km run.
Maggie, 30, said: “Montrose and the whole of the Angus area are fortunate to have stunning scenery, and it is the perfect training ground for those looking to get out on their bikes and also get their running shoes on.
“I started dabbling a bit in triathlon a year or so ago myself as a competitor, but found there were very few events taking place near my local area, so this is when I first realised the opportunity for this event.”
Entries are open and more information can be found at www.triangus.co.uk.
