The owners of a cat found shot dead in Angus on Saturday believe the perpetrator left a clue as to their identity.
Female tabby Wowzer was killed in Carnoustie by a single air-rifle pellet and found on an embankment last weekend and owner Henry Blaine believes the type of ammunition used could help trace the culprit.
Mr Blaine, 53, said a Prometheus-branded air rifle pellet was used in the shooting.
He added: “It wasn’t an everyday, run-of-the-mill pellet. It was a Prometheus pellet, the sort of pellet that would be used by a gun enthusiast to get high performance or more killing power.
“Whoever did this was aware of the potential devastation that the bullet would cause. I don’t think it’s just a kid running around taking pot-shots.”
The .22 round’s “sabot” design allows for superior 14ft per pound stopping power the maximum an air weapon can deliver without requirement for a licence.
As such, it unlikely the owner would be registered or the ammunition’s sale recorded but the find does give police a start.
