An Angus sheriff has ordered Travellers who have an illegal encampment in Forfar to leave the site.
The group of Travellers, who have around 30 caravans and other vehicles, have been in Forfar since the beginning of May.
They first set up camp on Montrose Road, on ground owned by the Strang’s Mortification Trust.
After a legal notice was served for them to evict that location on May 15, they moved to the opposite side of town in a night-time flit to a site at Orchardbank.
Their site is sandwiched between the Angus Council campus and the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association’s Scottish headquarters.
There have been reports of fly tipping, dogs barking and noise from generators coming from the encampment.
The land is owned by Angus Council and Hermiston Securities Ltd, who were represented by Nannette Page at the hearing in front of Sheriff Gregor Murray at Forfar Sheriff Court on Thursday.
Sheriff Murray granted decree for the Travellers to clear the site and immediately afterwards sheriff officers went to the site to serve the notice.
If the Travellers still refuse to leave the site, then an expert firm based in the Lothians will be employed to remove them and their vehicles.
