Police are on the hunt for vandals who performed “handbrake turns” on the Brechin Golf Club course.
Officers are making inquiries after an apparent late-night joyride on the seventh hole.
Brechin community PC Billy Rattray said it appeared a car had performed several “handbrake turns” on the course causing severe cosmetic damage.
According to head greenkeeper David Bisset, who discovered the damage, the site was a complete mess.
“I was coming down on Monday morning to cut the grass, saw the damage and didn’t think it was that bad at first,” he said.
“But when I got down on to the fairway, it was really bad. It’s torn up right in the direct line of play so that even though your ball may not be likely to end up in the damaged area, it’s extremely noticeable.”
Last year, officers vowed to crack down on vandalism in the town by increasing the number of high-visibility patrols and said they planned to come down hard on offenders this year in order to deter other would-be vandals.
