And organisers of Stonehaven Open Air in the Square hope to add another big name act to its show on December 31.
Scots rockers Simple Minds headlined last year and organising chairman David Lawman said the announcement “has been worth waiting for”.
“This is another scoop for the little town that likes to think big,” he said.
“I would like to personally thank our dedicated band of volunteers who have had many sleepless nights trying to follow on from last year’s success.”
He added, however, that because of soaring production costs they would again be looking for financial grants, support and sponsorship from local and national bodies.
Phil Oakey will entertain with long-time vocalists Joanne Catherall and Susan Ann Sulley, alongside other musicians.
The Human League were number one in the UK in 1981 with Don’t You Want Me? which was also number one in America. Other hits include Love Action, the Lebanon, Human and Tell Me When.
The veteran New Romantics enjoyed a resurgence of popularity this year when their biggest hit was appropriated by Aberdeen FC fans ahead of the League Cup final.
Celtic Park reverberated to the sound of Peter Pawlett, Baby on the way to a 4-2 victory against Inverness Caley Thistle on March 16. Scottish folk band the Peatbog Faeries have also been signed for the Market Square concert.
They played on the same bill as the Human League’s last Scottish Hogmanay performance during the millennium celebrations in Glasgow.
Local radio DJ and compere of last year’s show Harry Butler said: “This is great news. I think it could be a better night than last year and that will take some doing.”
