The mother of a girl who miraculously escaped injury after being hit by a train in Angus has sent a thank you message to the driver.
The 14-year-old girl was dragged under a moving train on Monday morning near the golf course at Carnoustie.
The incident closed the line in both directions for two hours.
The girl’s mum contacted The Courier directly asking us to pass on her thanks to the emergency services, witnesses who helped at the scene, the train driver whose swift action saved the girl and also well-wishers for their kind Facebook and Twitter comments.
She said her daughter is doing fine and was released from hospital and returned home around tea-time.
The mum also shared her gratitude with the OurCarnoustie Facebook page following a stream of well-wishes after news of the incident broke.
A post on the page said: “The mum of the girl who was hit by the train yesterday has been in touch with OurCarnoustie and would like to let you all know the following:
“She was released from hospital with no serious or lasting injuries, and is resting at home, and many thanks for everyone’s support and concern.
“She would also like to send a huge thanks to the train driver ‘for everything he did to try and prevent it being any worse than it was.’”
Emergency services flooded the town after the Aberdeen-bound ScotRail train was involved in a collision with the teenager around 9am.
The teenager remained conscious throughout the ordeal as she was treated at the scene by paramedics.
The train was then moved backwards to free the girl from underneath.
The mother says she does not wish to comment further.
