A search for a missing dog ended in sadness today with the discovery of its body in Montrose.
A 70-year-old local man had made an urgent plea for help after Ellie was seen going down a rabbit hole on Friday at Montrose airfield.
The man had been digging day and night ever since and the search was helped by a drainage company which brought along a scope and camera.
Local owners also took part in the search following a call to arms by Missing Dogs in Scotland to help find the Jack Russell.
A £200 reward was also put up if Ellie was found.
The search continued this morning at the old airfield ground between the football pitches and the industrial estate.
The owner was desperate to find Ellie whatever the outcome and the search was helped by Mark Whitworth of Drain Dogs Ltd.
Sadly, the specialist equipment found Ellie’s body underground just before lunchtime.
Posting on the Missing Dogs in Scotland Facebook page, the man’s daughter said: “A massive thank you to all who have aided in the search for my dad’s JR, Ellie.
“A special thank you to Mark Whitworth of Drain Dogs Ltd for giving up not only his time but his specialist equipment also.
“I have just been informed that Ellie’s body has been found underground she has sadly passed away.
“RIP little one.”
