An Angus mum maintaining a vigil at her four-year-old’s Spanish hospital bedside this morning thanked everyone who is praying for her daughter.
Kate Miller finally arrived in Barcelona last night after a nightmare struggle to be with little Cally Simpson after she was found motionless at the bottom of a swimming pool in the holiday resort of Salou earlier this week.
Cally had been on her first foreign holiday with her dad Steven and gran Wendy Simpson when tragedy struck at the Villa Marina resort.
After attempts to resuscitate her, the critically ill girl was rushed to a specialist children’s hospital in Barcelona.
The accident sparked a desperate struggle by Cally’s mum to get to Spain, with her efforts to rush to her daughter’s side blocked by a French air traffic controllers’ strike.
It’s understood that at one point Kate was actually on a plane ready to fly to Spain before passengers were then taken off the aircraft.
She finally arrived in Reus airport late last night before completing the 60-mile mercy dash to be with Cally, who remains in a critical but stable condition.
A Saving Cally Simpson Facebook page was set up when news of the tragic accident broke and it has been flooded with messages of support for the family.
Medics yesterday raised Cally’s temperature and this morning Kate said that while there had been an improvement in her daughter’s condition, the beginning of next week would be a crucial stage in terms of news of her progress.
“There has been a wee bit of improvement as Cally has been given proteins but we need scans done Sun/Mon,” she posted on the Facebook site.
“Thank you so much to everyone that took time out to pray for our wee girl, also all your kind words.
“This is a parent’s worst nightmare!” she said. “I just wanna swap places with my girl and make everything ok for her.”
