NHS Tayside has assured staff and patients of an Angus GP ward that it will be open within three weeks.
Montrose Royal Infirmary was forced to shut in April, following the failure of heating and water systems.
Its community maternity unit reopened on June 21, resuming full services since then, and with three births taking place there last week.
But the GP ward has remained closed, causing concern in local practices and members of staff, some of whom have taken time off work due to stress caused by job uncertainty and related matters.
The health board stated the senior charge nurse of the Montrose GP unit has been restocking supplies and making arrangements for equipment to be transferred back from Brechin Infirmary, to which patients and new admissions have been moved.
A spokesman added: “Nursing staff will continue to prepare to reopen the unit over the coming days and work towards re-commissioning the ward.”
A demand for assurances over the Montrose Infirmary GP ward’s future was backed by a 400-name petition calling for “no more excuses” as anxious nurses awaited communications from NHS Tayside.
A meeting has been held to discuss their concerns, attended by GPs from all three practices in Montrose.
The GPs were advised that the ward would reopen but that did not guarantee their long-term place in offering community care for Montrose patients.
Medical director Andrew Russell said the ward was still closed due to “complex” environmental issues and there remains a desire to fully operate the maternity unit for a couple of weeks, to “ensure resilience” before patients are readmitted.
Montrose patients continue to be admitted directly to the inpatient unit at Brechin Infirmary.
There are six Montrose patients being cared for at Brechin, which can be contacted on 01356 666071.
The health board stated that mothers-to-be can call the midwives at the usual Montrose number on 01674 623401 if they have queries about their care.
