A drunken Forfar man who threw a bottle towards a police car before scrapping with a rival in full view of officers has been given a year-long community payback order.
Damon Thomson was heavily under the influence at the time of the Friday evening incident in March when police on routine patrol saw him walking around on Forfar’s Glenmoy Terrace.
Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson told the town’s sheriff court 21-year-old Thomson, of Glenogil Terrace, was seen to be carrying a large glass bottle and he stared directly at police before throwing it up in the air.
“It didn’t smash but he picked it up and then smashed it yards from the police vehicle,” added the fiscal.
Thomson was then seen to walk into a nearby flat before emerging seconds later with another man.
“They were shouting at each other and then engaged in a fight in the middle of the road,” continued Mrs Anderson.
“Police formed the impression the accused was aware of their presence.
“They pulled the two males apart but Mr Thomson was angry at the intervention, broke free and when he was caught became abusive and uncooperative.”
Defence solicitor Angela McLardy said her client had an extensive schedule of previous convictions.
“He doesn’t shy away from the fact that the offending is all alcohol related. He accepts full responsibility in this matter and must face the consequences,” she added.
Sheriff Pino Di Emidio placed Thomson on the 12-month CPO with a condition of supervision.
