A disabled teenager, left heartbroken after missing One Direction’s concert in Edinburgh last month, has received a personalised gift from the band.
Kelsey Speed, 14, who suffers from muscular dystrophy, had tickets for the show but missed most of the concert because a special toilet facility at Murrayfield had not been set up.
After hearing about her experience, Dundee charity fundraiser Charlie Kean arranged for a 1D booklet to be delivered, which included a signed message from band member Zayn.
Zayn wrote that he hoped the teenager was feeling better.
Kelsey said: “I think Zayn is really nice. I really like the booklet.”
Kelsey has lost much of her mobility due to her condition, meaning she needs a toilet to have a hoist and a changing table installed.
Mum Lois Laird is now urging people to support the Changing Places consortium’s campaign for facilities to be built around the country.
The 35-year-old support worker said: “There aren’t many of them and it’s very limiting. They mean so much to the people who need them.
“Murrayfield have been really good and are now going to install a permanent changing facility.”
Lois and her family are hoping to raise £10,000 towards the cost of installing a CP toilet in Arbroath.
