The uncle of Angus youngster Cally Simpson has spoken of the devastating moment she was discovered unconscious in a Spanish swimming pool.
Daniel Simpson, 19, had been on the family holiday with Cally’s father Steven, 26, and other family members when the tragedy occurred.
The brothers had been returning from the toilet at the resort in Salou when they saw their mother, Wendy Simpson, running towards them shouting “It’s Cally”.
He claimed that five family members had been at the pool when the incident occurred but four-year-old Cally, who couldn’t swim without armbands, had managed to sneak into the pool unnoticed.
“Steven is blaming himself for what happened, the rest of the family are blaming themselves,” added Daniel. “It was just a tragic accident.”
Cally remains in a coma at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh after flying back from Spain on an air ambulance last week.
Dad Steven and mum Kate Miller have been staying by her bedside. Daniel spoke at a community fun-day for Cally in Arbroath which was attended by around 500 people.
Kate’s four sisters thanked the community for their support at the event.
