A man who was caught driving at 129 miles an hour through Angus has been banned for a year.
Calum Keith, 23, of Old Rayne, in Aberdeenshire, admitted that on February 22 on the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen dual carriageway at Waterston Road, he exceeded the 70mph speed limit.
Depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said the offence had been caught by a speed camera at 5.19am.
She added that Keith’s vehicle was an Audi A5.
Defence agent Brian Bell said Keith was an electrical technician who worked offshore and that disqualification would cause him difficulties.
He said: “He had dropped a friend off at the airport in Edinburgh and was travelling home.
“It was the early hours of the morning and the road was empty. The reason for his actions can only be described as stupidity.”
Sheriff Gregor Murray described the level of the reading as “as bad as it gets”.
He disqualified Keith from driving for one year and fined him £750, reduced from the £1,000 maximum he could impose, because of the early plea.
