Young cycling enthusiasts from all over Scotland will come to Angus to take part in a bike race later this month.
The Scottish Cycling event is part of the first Angus Cycling Festival, which takes place on the weekend of September 13 and 14.
Scott Francis from Angus Cycle Hub said: “We are delighted to be holding the first round of the Scottish Cycling Big Tree Campervan Youth Cross Country Series.
“This will see youngsters from all over Scotland come to compete in this bike race and we are encouraging everyone to come and cheer them on.”
The festival is a joint effort between local clubs, organisations and Angus Council, who contributed funding through the East of Scotland Rural Tourism Business Support Project.
Based at Reid Park in Forfar, the festival will also have trade stands, demonstration bikes, family rides, kids’ races, food and music.
“We see the festival as the first stepping stone to start a coordinated approach to developing cycling in Angus,” Scott added.
“In future we hope to help raise the profile of Angus as a cycling destination and extend the cycling, bikeability and mountain bike coaching for schools and the community.
“We also want to help develop and support local cycling initiatives and support local businesses to capitalise on cycle tourism.”
The event, which has been organised by Angus Cycle Hub and the Scottish Mountain Bike Consortium, will also include a mountain bike race across Balmashanner Hill on September 14.
Angus Council’s tourism spokeswoman Councillor Mairi Evans said: “I am delighted that Angus Council is supporting this new festival which will hopefully become an annual event.
“There is something for everyone and it will attract visitors into Angus as well as providing enjoyable activities for local residents.
“I urge everyone to dust off their bikes and come to take part in the wide range of events.”
