A court has heard how a boozed-up Forfar man assaulted an Asda security worker after being refused drink at the local store early on a Sunday morning.
Lee Hogg’s solicitor said that the 22-year-old was “still on Saturday night while the rest of the world was on Sunday morning” when he went into the premises in June to try to buy drink for himself and pals, and took umbrage when he was told he wouldn’t be sold vodka.
At the town’s sheriff court, Hogg, of Glenmoy Terrace, admitted assaulting an employee there on June 8, standing close to him with his face close to the complainer’s, repeatedly trying to grab his spectacles and pushing him on the body.
Fiscal depute Hannah Kennedy told the court Hogg had gone into the New Road supermarket around 9.50am on the Sunday morning and bought some food before leaving the premises.
“He then re-entered the store in an attempt to buy alcohol, but was warned by the security guard that he was under the influence and would not be allowed to purchase it,” the fiscal added.
“He became extremely aggressive, behaved in the manner described in the charge, pushed the man and then left the store.”
Hogg later admitted to police that he “cracked up” because he wasn’t allowed to buy the drink he wanted to.
Solicitor Nick Markowski said: “Although it was Sunday morning for the rest of the world, Mr Hogg was still on Saturday night.
“He had been drinking with pals and gone there under the influence to buy drink at ten o’clock.
“He regrets his actions. There was a confrontation, the security guard took hold of the vodka he wanted to buy and Mr Hogg left the store.
“He has a very limited recollection of the whole matter,” added Mr Markowski
“He has got himself into trouble in the past, but doesn’t have any outstanding cases.”
Sheriff PIno Di Emidio told Hogg: “I think we are in a situation where, standing the record and standing what happened last time, we are in the area of escalating sanctions here.”
Sentence was deferred until October 16 for the preparation of social work reports.
