O’Brien appeared before Sheriff Peter Paterson at Arbroath and admitted driving at excess speed on the A92 Dundee to Arbroath road on September 11. He was caught travelling at 109mph near to the Hatton wastewater treatment plant by police carrying out a laser speed check. Defence agent Billy Rennie said his client had completely lost sight of the speed he was going at.
