A Mearns man has been jailed for nine years for sexually abusing a young girl and assaulting a woman.
A court heard how James Ross, of North Water Bridge, near Laurencekirk, carried out the offences in Aberdeenshire and England over a period of many years.
The 54-year-old was jailed at the High Court in Edinburgh, following his conviction last month.
Temporary judge John Beckett QC said: “The public must be protected from you.”
Defence QC Mark Stewart told the court Ross had now accepted his guilt and was resigned to receiving a lengthy jail sentence.
Judge Beckett said the abuse had shaped many aspects of his victims’ lives.
